Study Highlights That Food Allergy Makes It Difficult For People To Facilitate Weight Loss
Date: 7th April 2009
A detailed study conducted by Dubai researchers reveal that food sensitivities or food allergies are capable of making individuals unable to trigger off weight loss and are also likely to facilitate inflammatory diseases in people. However, the study results also make it apparent that the avoidance of specific foods (that were found by a specific laboratory test to activate their immune response) by patients afflicted with obesity who have been unable to trigger off weight loss just by calorie restriction, proved to be significantly advantageous. According to sources, by including the aforementioned study results, Dr M. Akmal from the Dubai Specialized Medical Centre and other authors have prepared a report titled “The Effect of The ALCAT Test Diet Therapy for Food Sensitivity in Patient's With Obesity” and published it in the 2009 April edition of the Middle East Journal of Family Medicine.
The study was undertaken by researchers for a period of 12 weeks and in the course of the study, 27 patients who were not responsive to weight loss programs were made to avoid foods that proved to be immune reactive when subjected to blood testing via a system commonly known as ALCAT test. However, as soon as the study ended, it became evident that the participants had undergone an average reduction of 30% body fat as well as an average decrease in six points BMI (Body Mass Index) and an approximate weight loss of 37 pounds.
Pertaining to the specific results obtained from the study, Dr. Fred Pescatore, a leader in the study of hormonal and immune system effects of foods as well as an erstwhile medical director of the famous Atkins Center, states that though the results obtained from this study are thrilling, he is not at all astonished at these results. He further states that he has always observed the ALCAT test working with his patients over and over again.
